Check the background too
Review the whole image: Is there a name on a bag, an address on a letter or a school in the background? Check screens, mirrors and documents too. Several small details together can reveal something you did not intend to share.
Ask about the image and its audience
Ask whether the people in the image want it shared and tell them who will see it. Agreeing to a photo is not automatically agreeing to a social media post. Respect a no, including from your own child.
Choose the smallest audience that makes sense. A private profile or closed group does not stop someone from making a copy or forwarding the image.
Review an edited copy
In Sprout’s web test, Safe Camera can help with local image analysis and areas you cover yourself. The image is processed on your device; AI suggestions can miss content or mark it incorrectly. Check the result yourself before saving a copy.
Open the saved file and check that the details you chose are covered. Covering an area does not decide whether the rest of the image should be shared or remove copies already sent.
If an image is shared against your wishes
Ask for removal if it is safe to contact the person. Use the platform’s reporting feature and get an adult’s help. For private or intimate images, do not forward the image to explain the problem. Give appropriate support services safe details about the post.
